For use with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000/Combat Flight Simulator 2

This is a Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress painted to look like an RAF Mk.IIAA (equivalent to the B-17F) that served with British Coastal Command as a long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft in the European theater 1942-1945. One of 45 Mk.IIAAs, its primary purpose was to detect--and engage if possible--enemy submarines. At least one of these aircraft was fitted with a 40mm Vickers S gun in the nose for use against any U-boat caught on the surface.

Earlier in the war the RAF had purchased B-17Cs in an attempt at the first daylight bombings against German targets. It was quickly discovered however that the early model B-17s were undergunned as strategic bombers. Hence they were reassigned the role of long-range maritime reconnaissance, an important role considering that German-occupied territory lay just across the channel.

The color scheme for this B-17 is one of the most unusual I've ever seen for a military aircraft. The nearly white flanks and underside I assume helped it to blend in with the overcast and haze over the ocean waters surrounding England, while the dark gray and olive topside helped to conceal it from airborne threats while parked on the ground.

Don't hesitate to tell me what you like or don't like about my repaint.

Enjoy!
